I still can’t believe it’s already time for Derrick Rose to retire. I mean, part of me can. The part that’s watched his role sadly diminish to a reserve guard at the end of the bench floating from team to team.
But another part of me feels like it was just yesterday that I was sitting at a White Sox game when I found out the Bulls somehow won the lottery. And it doesn’t seem all that long ago when Rose was dunking over anyone, forcing Stacey King to give us some of the best calls of all time, winning an MVP, and leading the Bulls into playoff series after playoff series.
For me, he’ll always be the ultimate “What Would Have Been” if Thibs just would have not had him in a game up 11 with less than two minutes left in a playoff series against a team the Bulls were going to roll through. But I’m not going to get into that now. I don’t want to break anything in my apartment.
Instead, let’s just look at how some of the world reacted and paid tribute to D Rose and his retirement. Thanks for everything, Derrick!
