UPDATE: Hours after Derrick Rose teased a big announcement, the MVP shared news of his retirement.

Those wondering what comes next for Derrick Rose will not have to wait long.
The veteran guard became a free agent earlier this week after the Memphis Grizzlies let him out of his existing contract. Rose still had one season left at $3.3 million. What exactly led the two sides to reach this agreement is unclear.
While the Grizzlies have a busy backcourt that would’ve likely left Rose on the outside of the rotation looking in, the veteran could’ve still provided a valuable locker-room presence. This is why it feels like a decision that Rose may have very much driven, and Rose may have all but confirmed that on Wednesday night.
The former superstar posted a cryptic video to his Instagram page with a caption that read “The Renascence 9.26.24.” Not only is Rose seen in a clear state of contemplation, but we get flashes of his signature shoe and a throwback photo. All things considered, it’s hard not to think Rose could be teasing a retirement.

Now, is this for sure the end of the road for Derrick Rose? No. It’s always possible he’s teasing some other big announcement. But in light of this week’s news, as well as Rose’s inability to play more than 27 games over the past three seasons, hanging up the sneakers feels like it could be on the horizon.
If this does prove to be the case, let’s hope something is already in the works to ensure he retires as a member of the Chicago Bulls. This may have been the motive behind moving on from the Grizzlies, as he’s now free to sign – at the very least – a one-day deal with the organization.
Come home, Derrick.
