Tyson Bagent and Kahlil Herbert pulled up to Solider Field sporting Derrick Rose apparel this morning. Bagent even dusted off the McDonald’s All-American jersey!
You know what that means … Bears by a million.
- Scottie Pippen’s latest project is somehow both cool and dumb. The Chicago Bulls legend joined TMZ and shared news of a documentary he’s attempting to put together on the 1990-91 NBA Finals. Pippen shared that he still possesses the game ball from that iconic Game 5 victory, and he wants to tell the story of how it represents the transition from one dynasty to the next. Pippen has kept the ball for 33 years next to his replica Larry O’Brien trophies and six championship rings.
- All things considered, this passing of the torch could make for a pretty excellent doc. Many expected Magic Johnson and Co. to continue their run against the young Bulls, and the exact opposite played out. While The Last Dance spent some time on that series, I’m sure there are many more stories to tell about the lead-up to that final Bulls-Lakers battle.
- So why is this project also dumb? Well, it sure sounds like the motivation for Pippen is completely financial. The HOFer spoke about wanting to build up the value of the basketball to aid in a new cryptocurrency venture. The plan is to sell off pieces of the basketball as digital tokens. As Pippen puts it, he’s giving the ball “back to the community.” Look, I’m sure there are some people who find this interesting, but I’m not one of those people. This also makes me a tad less excited for the potential documentary, as the incentive could be to strictly build up hype around the ball instead of telling the honest story. Anyway, you can listen to Pippen’s full interview with TMZ here.
- Speaking of the 90s Bulls, Michael Jordan hosted Saturday Night Live 33 years ago this weekend! Let’s celebrate with some daily affirmations …
- HoopsHype ranked the highest-paid players on a per-game basis in NBA history, and two Chicago Bulls made the Top 25. The first familiar face to show up is Lonzo Ball, who shockingly checks in at No. 6. When we consider how few games he’s actually suited up for during his NBA career, he’s made $365,382 a night. The next Bulls player to show up is Zach LaVine at No. 23. The scoring guard – who is fresh off playing only 25 games during the 2023-24 season – has made $282,206 per game over his career.
- Happy Media Day Eve! Tomorrow projects to be one of the more fascinating Media Days in quite some time. Not only will Arturas Karnisovas have to outline a strategy for this upcoming season, but Zach LaVine will surely take questions about his future with the organization. We’ll also hear from Nikola Vucevic, who hasn’t come off particularly thrilled about the organization’s new direction in offseason interviews. All in all, this will be the franchise’s first chance to show everyone how they plan to balance developing players with satisfying their veterans. It’s not going to be easy.
- I’m giving my top BNF Rivals picks every week, if you’re into that sort of thing. We’re also planning to add an NBA game mode soon enough!
- We need you Keenan Allen!
