Alex Caruso’s welcome back to the United Center was as warm as expected.
The Chicago Bulls parted ways with the two-time All-Defensive Team guard this offseason in exchange for the developing Josh Giddey. Many around the league criticized Chicago for the deal, insisting they should’ve received even more for his services. As for OKC, they garnered nothing but praise for adding one of the NBA’s best on-ball defenders to a nucleus that just finished No. 1 in the West.
Nevertheless, Bulls fans were left with nothing but fond memories of the headband-wearing menace. And they got to show their appreciation early in the first quarter of Saturday night’s game. During the first time out of the evening, the organization shared a tribute video that honored Caruso’s three seasons in Chicago. Fans quickly rose to their feet with a loud ovation.
Considering how little the Bulls actually accomplished with Caruso in town, I could understand why someone might feel weird about the tribute. But there is also no denying how much of an effect Caruso had on the fan base. Chicago basketball fans have always admired the hard-nosed hustle player, and Caruso was the epitome of that since stepping foot in the city.
Anyway, the Bulls went on to share the full tribute video on social media, which you can check out here:
The Chicago Tribune’s Julia Poe also shared a great look at the crowd’s reaction here. I’m sure everyone will feel a bit differently when he starts locking up Coby White … but it’s still nice to see the fan-favorite back in the UC!
