The Chicago Bulls’ G-League affiliate unveiled its 2024 training camp roster on Monday. Windy City’s preparation for the regular season began today and will run through Nov. 6, per the team’s website. They will then begin their regular season on Nov. 8 with a matchup against the Grand Rapids Gold.
One of the most notable additions is Javon Freeman-Liberty, who is making his second stop as part of the organization. The former DePaul standout turned heads during Summer League two years ago and ultimately earned a two-way contract with the Toronto Raptors. He would go on to appear in 22 regular season games for the team last season.
Fast forward to this summer, and the 25-year-old appeared on his way overseas. He chose to opt out of his deal in Turkey to rejoin the Bulls and work toward an NBA opportunity. The chances of him finding that in Chicago feel unlikely when we consider their current logjam in the backcourt. However, he should have plenty of opportunities with Windy City to try to grab the attention of another franchise.
Marcus Domask and Ryan Arcidiacono make up two other notable – and familiar – names on the training camp roster. Domask signed an Exhibit-10 deal with the Chicago Bulls and joined them in Las Vegas for the Summer League, paving the way for him to become a member of the G-League roster. A five-year college player who finished his career with an Elite Eight run at Illinois, Domask offers great size at the two-guard spot with some solid all-around scoring potential.
As for Arcidiacono, Bulls fans know well what he brings to the floor. The former Villanova star spent his first four seasons in the NBA with the franchise before joining the New York Knicks. A decent floor general with a solid 3-point jumper, Arcidiacono’s lack of size and elite skillset has made it hard for him to stick in the league. Nevertheless, he should be considered a pretty strong veteran presence to have on almost any G-League roster. He can help show the team’s young guards the ropes while helping ensure that a big man like Adama Sanogo gets fed.
Indeed, Sanogo also returns to the G-League after finishing among the top competitors last season. Sanogo made both the All-Rookie Team and the All-G-League Third Team thanks to his 22.0 points and 12.7 rebounds per game last season. Sanogo will stick around on a two-way contract, meaning he’ll spend his time between downtown and Hoffman Estates.
The Bulls’ other two-way spots saw some shuffling, as an impressive Summer League earned guard DJ Steward a spot. Still only 23 years old, the former Duke Blue Devil spent the previous three seasons with the Kings and Celtics’ G-League program. Former Ohio State star and 2022 second-round pick EJ Liddell then went on to steal the last remaining two-way spot during training camp. An undersized power forward, Liddell provides an interesting combination of physicality and finesse. All three two-way players are expected to suit up frequently for Windy City.
With the Bulls caring far more about player development than the win-loss column this season, we may want to keep a closer eye on the G-League this season than normal. There is certainly a world where the Bulls find themselves shaking up the roster later this season and moving on from veteran talent. While this could open the door to some of the two-way guys getting real NBA minutes, it could also lead to a G-League standout earning a promotion.
