Lonzo Ball’s comeback will hit the pause button.
The Chicago Bulls announced on Tuesday night that the point guard suffered a wrist sprain during the team’s victory over the Memphis Grizzlies. The injury apparently occurred in the first quarter of play, but Ball went on to play the remainder of the game.
In fact, his 17 minutes of action were a season-high, as were his 6 points and 6 assists. Three of those assists even came during some pivotal fourth-quarter minutes. Ball split time on the floor with Josh Giddey for the first time, and he set Zach LaVine up for his back-to-back threes that ultimately gave Chicago the lead.
Another Injury for Lonzo Ball
The good news is that the Bulls don’t expect this to be a serious injury, per K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Sports Network. The bad news is that a re-evaluation in 10 days doesn’t necessarily signify a return. While this will obviously be the hope, it leaves the door open for Ball to miss even more time.
If Ball is given the green light to step back on the hardwood in 10 days, he will miss only the next five games. However, when we consider the Bulls’ plan to sit him for one game during each back-to-back set, it’s more like Ball would miss only four games. Still, Ball’s knee appeared to be holding up well to begin this season, so it’s a major bummer to see his progress halted by a different injury.
Let’s just hope this one doesn’t linger and the comeback tour can continue.
