Last NBA Cup Game, Boston is Good at Everything, Ayo Dosunmu Playing Well, and Other Bulls Bullets

Ayo Dosunmu of the Chicago Bulls

Does anyone have a loose net and some extra beard cream lying around? I want to lure Matt Eberflus into a trap and check for a mask.

“Old Bulls head coach JIm Boylen!?”

“And I would’ve gotten away with it, too, if it wasn’t for you meddling fans!”

  • The Chicago Bulls have a chance to continue their NBA Cup journey later tonight. Battling the Boston Celtics on their home floor, a victory would put the Bulls at a 3-1 record in Group Play. Throw in a Cavaliers loss to the Hawks, and the Bulls would clinch the top spot in Group C! Is it likely that we will see the two top teams in the East stumble? I wouldn’t bet on it. But we’ve seen crazier things happen!
  • For a more complete look at Chicago’s odds to advance to the NBA Cup’s knockout round, check out our post from earlier this week:
  • A matchup with the defending champs is never easy. The 15-3 Boston Celtics do just about everything right, holding the second-highest net rating in the NBA behind only the Oklahoma City Thunder. The team averages just over 120 points per game, which is horrible news for a Bulls’ defense that has given up more than that in six of their last seven games. Boston is also electric from behind the arc, averaging a league-high 18.9 makes per game. If the Bulls aren’t hustling in transition and closing out strong, this one could get ugly really fast.
  • Now, if there is one area the Bulls can try to exploit, it’s possibly the Celtics’ rim protection. They have allowed the 5th-most points in the paint per game. The recent return of Kristaps Porzingis will obviously help tighten the screws in this department, but the teams have been inconsistent at times keeping teams from attacking downhill. Opponents have also shot a decent 46.5 percent against them this season. To be clear, this is still a Celtics team that has as much defensive potential as anyone, but they’ve also played a handful of close games this year. The Bulls may be able to stay alive by mucking things up and using their transition speed to score some easy buckets.
  • Speaking of which, can Ayo Dosunmu help set the downhill tone? He has looked better and better over the last week, averaging 15.3 points on 64.1 percent shooting over the last four games. For whatever reason, we’ve also seen him play some great basketball against Boston in the past. He is 57-92 from the field against the Celtics over his career, as well as 14-25 from downtown! That’s pretty impressive when we consider all the talented perimeter defenders Boston has had on this roster.

  • Kirk Goldsberry’s latest efficiency chart says it all. The Bulls are one of the league’s more dynamic offensive groups, but their defense remains an eyesore.
  • Speaking of keeping up with the Celtics, Coby White will almost certainly have to put together a strong night. The Bulls will need to keep up from behind the arc, and White has reminded us of his absurd range over the last two games.

  • ICYMI: This made me chuckle. Zach LaVine couldn’t help but respect the block.
  • SEND OUT THE FAX!
  • Oof, the Blackhawks have announced that one of their most important veterans will remain on the injury report for a lot longer.
  • With the MLB offseason in full swing, Brett took a look at a possible option for Chicago at catcher.
