The Chicago Bulls will begin their back-to-back set without Coby White.
Missing his first game of the season on Monday night against Brooklyn, White has also been ruled out for Thursday’s meeting with the Spurs. The guard, who continues to deal with an ankle sprain, will have his next chance to return on Friday night against the Pacers. If the Bulls opt to sit him again, all eyes will turn to Sunday’s matinee meeting with the 76ers.
As for Patrick Williams, he will almost certainly remain in street clothes for the remainder of the week. The forward will miss his eighth straight game on Thursday night due to foot inflammation. Head coach Billy Donovan shared with K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Sports Network that Williams’ window to return will open next week.
Likewise, we also got some good news on the 23-year-old earlier this week. His ramp-up process has begun, which has included both running and jumping. Williams has reportedly responded well so far to his on-court work. To be sure, concerns will not be put to be until he officially steps on the floor, but things are trending in the right direction. I also think the Bulls are right to approach things with an abundance of caution considering last year’s foot surgery.
Lonzo Ball will be the only other player unavailable in San Antonio. As Ball and the team announced prior to the season, the plan is to have him not participate in back-to-backs for the foreseeable future. I think we can all understand why! Nevertheless, Ball will be back on the floor at the United Cente against Indiana.
The other big injury news comes on the other side of the ball. The Bulls will not have to worry about emerging superstar Victor Wembanyama during their trip out West. San Antonio has ruled out the towering force with a lower back injury. To be sure, the Spurs have several other talented youngsters on the roster, but Wembanyama is one of the league’s elite two-way forces. His athletic above-the-rim play would’ve given this Bulls’ frontcourt A LOT of problems.
