If you had the Chicago Bulls having one of the best offenses in basketball on your bingo card, head to the counter to collect your prize!
- Maybe it’s just me, but I wasn’t prepared for the Bulls’ offense to look THIS much better with the release of their best player. Sure, you could point fingers at DeMar DeRozan’s style of play for holding this team back, but let’s not forget just how outstanding he was in a Bulls uniform. He earned the right to control the offense, and the team’s best chance to win often came with the ball in his hands. Indeed, this is why Billy Donovan had to change the game plan so drastically coming into this year. For the Bulls to find success on that end, they had to completely re-invent themselves. And I never thought they would be able to do it this well.
- The Bulls have now shot 50.0 percent or better in seven straight games this season. During this stretch, they have the best effective field goal percentage in the league and the best offensive rating. During the year as a whole, they are 3rd in EFG% and 9th in OFFRTG! While we knew the offense would be far more entertaining to watch after the first couple of games, I never thought this would lead to such high-scoring efficiency. I mean, can you believe the Bulls are the 5th-best three-point shooting team (38.4 percent) in the league!? And they are doing it while taking the 3rd-most attempts per game (42.8)!? Remember, this is a team that finished 26th in 3PAs last season and 30th in the two seasons prior.
- The Bulls put on an offensive clinic last night, in particular. They took complete advantage of a Spurs team that was missing arguably the best rim protector in the league. Chicago relentlessly attacked the basket and finished with a season-high 68 points in the paint. This also led to a season-high 139 total points. Oh, and as the game went on and the Spurs were playing to protect the rim, the floor only opened more behind the arc. This led to one of the best full-game shooting charts you’ll see from any team this season:
- Ayo Dosunmu was a big part of the Bulls’ success last night. The fourth-year guard registered the first triple-double of his career, finishing with 27 points, 11 assists, and 10 rebounds. San Antonio had zero answers for his downhill acceleration. He does such an excellent job at beating defenders by a step and using his length to finish strong inside. A performance like last night really makes you wonder what he could do with an even more consistent on-ball role.
- With Josh Giddey recording his own triple-double against the Nets, the Bulls have now seen teammates post back-to-back triple-doubles for the first time since MJ & Scottie! What an accomplishment by the young guards!
- Protect Matas Buzelis at all costs. The rookie turned to Instagram after last night’s game to let fans know he was a-okay after some friendly fire hit him in the nose. Blooded and teary-eyed, he posted a thumbs-up on his Instagram story. How can you not be hyped about this kid!?
- Nikola Vucevic sure looked like an All-Star last night with 39 points on 16-22 shooting from the field. I can’t underscore enough how fantastic the big man has been all season long. He is playing arguably the best basketball of his career, and it’s a big reason why the Bulls shockingly sit 10-13 on the season. Only two players this season are averaging at least 20 points per game on 55+ percent shooting from the field and 46+ percent shooting from downtown … Nikola Jokic and Nikola Vucevic. SO WHO’S TRADING FOR THIS MAN!?
- EVEN HIS 3-POINT SHOOTING IS BACK!
- The Blackhawks join the Bears with an in-season head coach firing. GM Kyle Davidson met with the media to talk about the decision this morning.
- Meanwhile, all signs point toward Ben Johnson being the right coach at the right time for the Bears. Patrick has more on why he is the man for the job.
