Jevon Carter had been itching for minutes.
The veteran guard came into Thursday night’s contest with only 13 appearances on the season, averaging less than 5 minutes in those contests. With the Bulls’ roster overflowing with guard talent and looking to prioritize player development, he became the odd man out. But that wasn’t the case against Atlanta.
With Ayo Dosunmu, Josh Giddey, and Lonzo Ball each stuck in street clothes, head coach Billy Donovan turned to Carter first off the bench. The Chicago native proceeded to make the most out of his opportunity. He quickly knocked down two transition threes and forced a whistle on both.
Take a look …

From there, Carter was in full NBA Jam mode. He went 6-7 from downtown in roughly six minutes off the bench. His 19 points in the first frame ended up a single-quarter career-high!
His explosive shot-making helped the Bulls turn a 9-2 early deficit into a 33-21 first-quarter advantage. While he wouldn’t find the bottom of the net again in the second quarter, Carter would end the first half a +23. Now, will this lead to more playing time for Carter in the future? It’s probably unlikely with such a logjam in the backcourt. But it sure doesn’t hurt his case … nor his trade value!
