Bulls Reportedly Sign New Player to Two-Way Contract (UPDATE: DJ Steward Waived)

The Chicago Bulls are making a change to their two-way contract roster spots.

According to Jamal Collier of ESPN, the Bulls have signed Emanuel Miller to a two-way deal. The six-foot-seven forward played five seasons in college between Texas A&M and TCU. He went undrafted in the 2024 NBA Draft after averaging 15.8 points and 6.1 rebounds for the Horn Frogs last season.

Miller has spent his rookie season with the Dallas Mavericks G League affiliate after joining the franchise for Summer League. He has averaged 18.2 points, 8.3 rebounds, 2.4 assists, and 1.1 steals over his 16 games played thus far. This included a huge double-double earlier this month, where he scored 32 points and 14 rebounds against the Mexico City Capitanes.

Bulls Add Emanuel Miller

All things considered, Miller feels well worth a closer look. While he may be considered a tweener, he offers a level of strength and physicality the Bulls lack on the wing. Miller has also turned into a decent long-range threat after shooting a low volume early in college. He shot 38.3 percent in his final year at TCU and has shot 37.8 percent with the Legends on nearly 6.0 attempts per game. For a Bulls team that now seems to value uptempo play, positional versatility, and three-point shooting, a flyer on Miller seems appropriate.

The real question now is who will get the boot? Each NBA team is only allowed three two-way contracts on their roster. This means that one of DJ Steward, Adama Sanogo, and EJ Liddell will be stripped of their deal and likely remain with the Windy City Bulls or enter free agency. If I had to guess, Sanogo is likely safe, as he’s in his second season with the team and this active roster lacks big men.

We’ll keep you updated.

UPDATE (12.28.24)

The Chicago Bulls have officially announced the signing of Emanuel Miller to a two-way contract. In order to make room for the 24-year-old rookie, they have parted ways with DJ Steward.

The guard earned his two-way spot following a solid Summer League showing with the Bulls. He had spent the previous three seasons with the Kings and Celtics G League affiliates after going undrafted out of Duke in 2021. In 16 games with the Windy City Bulls this season, Steward was averaging 19.9 points, 7.5 assists, and 4.7 rebounds on 39.8 percent shooting from long range.
