Angel Reese may be preparing for her first-ever game in the Unrivaled Basketball League, but she is still hard at work for the Chicago Sky.
The emerging superstar made a pitch to the many intriguing WNBA free agents on Wednesday evening. After referencing some of the new amenities Unrivaled has to offer in Miami – including multiple meals a day and spa-like treatment – Reese made sure players knew that Chicago can offer something similar.
“oh & trust me, a lot of these things will be in chicago this year as well! @Free Agents,” Reese shared on X.
Angel Reese, The Recruiter!
Angel Reese is likely referring to the Sky’s new training facility in Bedford Park. The organization announced the massive 40,000-square-foot building in July and said it is expected to be completed late in 2025. Some of the amenities announced include a private chef’s kitchen, a content creation studio, beauty stations, and cutting-edge strength and conditioning equipment. In other words, the exact opposite of the Sachs Recreation Center in Deerfield!
The state-of-the-art space should help in the franchise’s efforts to recruit high-level talent. The prospect of teaming up with Reese also sure can’t hurt! The former LSU Tiger shattered the WNBA record for rebounds in a season during her rookie campaign and also broke the league’s double-double streak. She is already one of the elite defenders in the game, and there is no denying she will continue to put a lot of eyes on the city of Chicago.
The next few weeks in Florida will be a great opportunity for her to build some strong relationships with some of the league’s top talent. The Unrivaled League begins on January 17 and will run until mid-March. Six different teams made up of 36 players will duke it out in a 3-on-3 format. You can learn more about how it all works here. Some of the free agents set to compete are Kelsey Plum, Satou Sabally, Dearica Hamby, Dijonai Carrington, and Courtney Vandersloot.
To be sure, the brunt of the work will still fall on the shoulders of new head coach Tyler Marsh and the Sky front office. They will have to prove that they can build a competitive team around Angel Reese and establish a winning culture.
