2021 Cubs World Series Odds
As the Cubs get set to prepare for the 2021 regular season, they find themselves in an unfamiliar spot. After years as one of baseball’s frontrunners, Chicago enters this season as an underdog, one in which oddsmakers aren’t particularly bullish.
At DraftKings Sportsbook, the Cubs are +4000 to win the 2021 World Series. Moreover, there are 14 total teams ahead of them with better odds, including National League Central foes St. Louis (+2500) and Cincinnati (+2500). Curiously, despite having better division odds, Milwaukee (+4400) trails the Cubs in the championship market.
At both FanDuel Sportsbook and PointsBet, the Cubs also have the 14th and 15th best odds, respectively to win it all, but the current price at both books is +3500. In short, if you’re looking to grab Chicago to emerge from an early season mid-tier team to one poised to make a run, DraftKings offers the superior price.
At the moment, the Cubs have only a 0.6% chance of winning the World Series, according to the FanGraphs’ formula. They trail both the Brewers (1.5%) and the Cardinals (1.1%) but are ahead of the Reds (0.6%) in the FanGraphs projections.
Here’s a look at the Cubs’ 2021 World Series odds and how they stack up with the current top 10 contenders.

Cubs Odds to Win the National League
Given the Cubs have slipped from past seasons in terms of preseason World Series odds, it shouldn’t c0me as a shock that their odds to win the National League pennant have also slipped.
The Dodgers enter the clear-cut favorite (+175), but coming off of a massive offseason, the Padres (+390) have the second-best odds. A pair of NL East clubs in the Braves (+500) and Mets (+525) comprise the second tier, while the Cardinals (+1050), Reds (+1500), Phillies (+2000), Nationals (+2000) and Cubs (+2200) trail behind.
Here’s a look at the top teams in the National League odds market and how the Cubs stack up:
Team | Odds |
---|---|
Dodgers | +175 |
Padres | +390 |
Braves | +500 |
Mets | +525 |
Cardinals | +1050 |

Phillies | +2000 |

Cubs NL Central Odds
The Cubs may not be the favorite to win the division this season, but this figures to a closely contested race with a number of quality clubs in the mix.
Division rival St. Louis comes to spring training as the favorite at +100 odds to win the central. Cincinnati (+325) and Milwaukee (+385) are slotted just ahead of Chicago (+400). Only Pittsburgh (+5000) is valued by oddsmakers as a true long shot at this point.

National League Cy Young Odds
The Cubs have some solid arms in the starting rotation, but none of them exactly scream Cy Young frontrunner. In fact, it requires quite a scroll to find the two Cubs pitchers listed in the preseason Cy Young Award mix with Jake Arrieta (+6000) and Kyle Hendricks (+6600) the two arms currently listed.
Frankly, it’s surprising Arrieta is listed ahead of Hendricks. Maybe he recaptures his magic now that he’s back in Chicago, but he’s coming off three injury plagued and mediocre (generous assessment) seasons with the Phillies. Hendricks is at least fresh off a shortened season in which he pitched to a 2.88 ERA.
In all there, there are more than 30 National League pitchers with better Cy Young odds.
National League MVP Odds
The Cubs’ outlook for sporting this year’s MVP isn’t quite as bleak, but oddsmakers aren’t expecting the award to reside in Chicago this offseason. Kris Bryant and and Anthony Rizzo check in at +3000, while Javier Baez (+3300) and Ian Happ (+4000) aren’t far behind.
While none of these players currently reside in the top ten, they’re very much in the mix and few teams can say they have four position players at least part of the preseason conversation for the award.
