The Cublogoverse is Still Shrinking

Chicago Cubs

Our first Cublogoverse post was about Mark DeRosa’s blog, The Pulse, potentially vanishing or at least making the interstellar leap to the Indianblogoverse (you see how terrible that move would be, Mark? It doesn’t even roll off the tongue!).

And wouldn’t you know it, the Cublogoverse is losing another excellent blog.

When I first ventured into the Cublogoverse a couple of years ago, one of the first Cubs blogs that joined my “regular rotation” was Joe Aiello’s View from the Bleachers. In fact, I’d be lying if I said it didn’t influence Bleacher Nation (yes, including the name).

More after the jump.

Well, as of a few weeks ago, after several years of solid game recaps, opinion pieces, and regular news updates, VFTB shut its e-doors. In fact, if you try to go to www.viewfromthebleachers.com right now, it’ll take you to Joe Aiello’s new venture, the Windy City Abstract (a blog all about Chicago, not just the Cubs).

I’ve had the good fortune to interact with Joe a few times over e-mail, and I’ll tell you what – he’s a class act. One of the nicest in the Cublogoverse. So naturally, I was sad to see the announcement that he was shuttering VFTB up.

But there’s good news for fans of VFTB and Joe’s unique style. In addition to the Windy City Abstract, Joe has brought his Chicago Cubs-writing talents to another of the ‘net’s great Cubs blogs: The Cub Reporter. Now, we’re not into ranking the various Chicago Cubs blogs (not yet, anyway), but if we were, we would have placed both VFTB and TCB in the upper eschelon of the Cublogoverse. So now, it is as if they’ve merged into one superblog – or at least mated and spawned a love child.

So although the Cublogoverse is shrinking in quantity, maybe it’s increasing in quality.

Or some other cheesy-ass way to wrap up this article.
