Jim Hendry is Honored By Blagojevich
Cubs General Manager Jim Hendry met with embroiled Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich on November 21, 2008, just weeks before the Governor’s arrest on a myriad of charges related to alleged corruption. Although it remains unclear the connection between Blagojevich’s corrupt activities, and the Tribune’s effort to sell the team and Wrigley Field, such a meeting will no doubt raise eyebrows among conspiracy buffs.
Cubs spokesman Jason Carr said he didn’t know who initiated the meeting between GM Hendry and Blagojevich at Wrigley Field on Nov. 21, before the two adjourned for lunch at Harry Caray’s Tavern. But Carr said the sale of Wrigley Field is not part of Hendry’s official concern, and doubts the subject came up. AP.
Maybe the just talked about baseball. But maybe it was something far more sinister. Maybe Jim Hendry knew about Blagojevich’s exploits. Maybe Jim Hendry was putting the squeeze on.
…for honorary signs?
Park Ridge officials say they aren’t sure why street signs honoring the general manager of the Chicago Cubs appeared in Uptown last month and claim they weren’t informed of the plan.
The brown, rectangular signs, reading “Honorary Jim Hendry Way,” were attached to two traffic signal poles at the intersection of Prospect Avenue, Touhy Avenue and Northwest Highway by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT), said Park Ridge’s Director of Public Works Wayne Zingsheim.
Zingsheim said an IDOT representative said crews were ordered to install the signs based on an “executive order from the governor’s office.” Zingsheim said the city was never informed of this order and only learned about it after making calls to IDOT this week.
