Cubs Caravan Coming Cwickley

Chicago Cubs

The Cubs Caravan – I picture them all crammed into an RV, complaining out who stuck their finger in the peanut butter – is a fun way to meet/see/interact with some of the biggest stars on the Chicago Cubs. I’m just playing. It’s young guys and scrubs. But I’d still go.

Valparaiso High School’s gym will be the site of this year’s visit of the National League Central champs to Northwest Indiana, which is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. Wednesday. Hometown hero Jeff Samardzija, who made his major league debut with the National League Central champions last year, heads the cast.

Other Cubs expected are relief pitcher Neal Cotts, outfielders Joey Gathright and Felix Pie, broadcaster Len Kasper and Oneri Fleita, vice president of player personnel. Cubs coaches Lester Strode, Ivan Dejesus and Matt Sinatro will also be present. Post-Tribune.

The Post-Tribune put together little summary teasers for each of the players attending. My favorite was Joey Gathright.

GATHRIGHT — The 27-year-old outfielder brings speed and a left-handed bat into the lineup. In five years with Tampa Bay and Kansas City, the career .263 hitter has stolen 78 bases (74 percent success rate) in 399 games. Last season he batted .254 with the Royals and stole 21 bases in 24 attempts. Basically a singles hitter, Gathright has hit just one homer and 30 doubles. He will qualify as the fastest Cubs player.

Until they sign that cheetah.
