The prevailing wisdom has been that *IF* the Cubs traded for Jake Peavy, shortstop Ronny Cedeno would be included, as the Padres are currently set to start Luis Rodriguez at short – he of the (ironically Ronny Cedeno-like) .677 OPS last year.
But that wisdom may have just gotten the kybash.
I’m hearing today that Omar Vizquel (owner of 11 gold-gloves) could be the Friars shortstop as soon as tomorrow. That would be a nice pick up for the Padres who are suddenly in the market for some veteran leadership…not to mention Vizquel can still pick it. He’s not going to hit much, but guess what, the Padres as a team aren’t going to hit much next season. POSTGAME on Channel 4.
Yup. That’s what the Padres need to compete this year: veteran leadership.
