Obsessive Peavywatch: Padres Sign David Eckstein

If the Padres also add Omar Vizquel, as has been speculated, the ability of the Cubs to shuffle off “serviceable” major league pieces like Ronny Cedeno in a deal for Jake Peavy becomes hampered. Ronny Cedeno’s shittiness also hampers that ability.

The Padres have agreed to terms on a one-year deal with David Eckstein to play second base.

Eckstein, who will turn 34 on Tuesday, batted .265 with two home runs last season and played at both shortstop and second base. He appeared in 94 games — 76 with the Toronto Blue Jays, 18 with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Padres Blog.

The Padres just increased their team scrappy factor by 10.
