The Cublogoverse is MONEY GRAB!

Chicago Cubs

cublogoverseFlipping through my headlines the other day, I came across this peach from Inside the Ivy:

If the inauguration of Barack Obama as the nation’s 44th president is a precursor to the play of typical Cubs teams during inaugural years, what can be expected of the 2009 club? How Have Cubs Fared in Inaugural Years?.

And I thought to myself, “Self, I bet you would kind of like to know that.” It’s not as if there is a causal relationship between an inauguration and the play of a Major League Baseball team, and the very suggestion that there could be is so ridiculously beyond the pale that the laughter it induces is downright painful.

Still, it might be good for a quick read, and millisecond larf.

So I click to read the rest of the story, only to find… SUBSCRIPTION!

More after the jump (don’t worry, we won’t charge you).

You have got to be straight up kidding me. Inside the Ivy/Scout is asking me to subscribe to their site so I can find out that the Cubs maybe play kind of well or don’t play kind of well in inaugural years? Holy God, this must be a joke.

Scouting reports, insider news and rumors. Ok. I get paying for that.

But PURE fluff pieces? Yikes.

That’s a surefire way to piss off your readership, and guarantee that any thinking person will *never* subscribe to your site. Now that I know this is the kind of garbage that a “premium” membership will get me, why on Earth would I pay?

“Which Chicago Cubs superstar eats his french fries… with mayonaise!? Click here to pay $50 and find out the answer!”

I hope this doesn’t get me banned from the message board…
