Sooooo, yeah. Jake Peavy now says he loves being in San Diego, and is glad he wasn’t traded. Swell.
“Absolutely I’m happy. I never wanted to be anywhere else than Peoria this time of year. I think we made that clear when we my deal with the Padres, San Diego is near and dear to my heart,” Peavy said.
Peavy, who has a no-trade clause, indicated that “if I wanted to be on another team, I think we could have gone to the Padres and pressed the issue.”
But it never came to that, as Peavy’s agent, Barry Axelrod, was never presented a deal to ponder, which is perfectly fine with Peavy.
“I signed this contract with every intent of playing with the Padres,” he said. “I fully intend on that. I’m dang glad to be a San Diego Padre.” padres.com.
Shrug. What is he supposed to say at this point when it’s clear that, even if a deal is ever going to happen, it isn’t going to happen until sometime during the season? “Dang I hate the San Diego Padres!”
Does this mean he won’t approve any trade now? I doubt it. So ultimately, I don’t read a whole lot into this story.
