Milton Bradley DH’d for the Chicago Cubs yesterday, a week after leaving his first Spring Training game with quad soreness.
When it happened, I was like, “Oh my God, here we go…” But at least Bradley understands:
He said he understands that 12 stints on the disabled list leads to questions about his brittleness. Bradley imagined Cubs fans hearing about his sore quad after one at-bat, “and it’s like, ‘Oh my God, here we go…’”
He’s just like me!
It’s just something he’s learned to deal with over the years.
“I haven’t been very healthy,” he said. “I’m not happy about it. But I work as hard as I possibly can. Maybe part of it’s genetic, or maybe the warm-up, or stretching, or just the way I’m built. If you look at me, I look like I’m in shape. I feel in shape. I’d be dangerous if I actually got healthy.”
If it was/is the warm-up or the stretching, Milton, then you got some serious ‘splainin’ to do. It should only take a professional athlete missing a few games to realize, hey, I gotta stretch or something. Not eight years.
So I give the benefit of the doubt, and say it’s probably not a lack of stretching/preparation on Bradley’s part. Some guys are just afflicted with Grant Hill Syndrome. I don’t like it, but it’s preferable to the other idea bouncing around my head, which is that Bradley is simply soft. Those are really the only two explanations that make any sense. Neither gets me turned on, but the former at least leaves me with respect for Bradley. So I choose that one.
