At least not this year.
The Chicago Cubs made the first red tags of the year, sending pitchers Andrew Cashner, Edward Campusano, and Roquet to minor league camp. Given that the camp doesn’t open for another week, it seems an extra kick in the crotch.
Cashner, the Cubs first round pick in 2008, impressed manager Lou Piniella, but it didn’t really show up in the box score. He wasn’t really going to make the team this year, anyway. The Cubs plan to use him as a starter in the minors this year, despite the fact that his breakout in college took place when TCU shifted him into the bullpen.
Bonus Cashner news, he’s got a strained oblique. It’s unclear if this played a part in his cut, but hopefully it’s not serious.
