The Chicago Cubs exacted more fake revenge on the Los Angeles Dodgers for last year’s pathetically, embarrassingly, awfully, ridiculously, pathetically, I know I already said pathetically but it was really pathetic, terribly poor playoff effort. Battles!
Esteban German and Corey Koskie – making his debut – split time at third. Koskie went 1-2 with a double and a walk, and German took a couple walks. Hard to imagine one of these guys not making the team, given the dearth of backups in the infield, but no one is exactly blowing the doors off the place.
Koyie Hill!!! Kid done blewed up to the tune of 4-5 with a homer. If he can hit half as much as he’s hitting this Spring (I mean that literally – he currently stands at .414), he should win the back-up catcher job over Paul Bako. Lou has said he already knows who the guy is going to be, but maybe Hill is giving Lou more to think about.
Sean Marshall (relieving?), Kevin Gregg, Randy Wells, and Neil Cotts all pitched scoreless innings in relief. I read nothing into Marshall appearing in relief, but it is a bit odd. Randy Wells has certainly put together a heck of a Spring, but if Lou wants Jeff Samardzija in the pen, and Luis Vizcaino and Chad Gaudin aren’t getting dumped, there just isn’t a spot for him.
