Carlos Zambrano is now officially Zorro, the masked avenger, riding in on horseback to save the day. No, not just because his name starts with a Z, or because of his Spring Training (badass) mustache.
Carlos Zambrano was taking grounders at third base and shortstop on Saturday. The Cubs hope it doesn’t come to that. cubs.com.
Of course, in reality, I would pretty much cry in terror if Carlos ever took the field, but in fantasy land, I’m sporting wood.
So the actual news part: the Cubs don’t plan on putting Aramis Ramirez or Milton Bradley on the disabled list. Thus, they’ll be playing absurdly short for the next few days.
Additionally, the backups become a bit comical. Because Mike Fontenot now has to start at 3B, placing Aaron Miles at 2B, the backups at those respective positions are: backup catcher Koyie Hill, and starting left fielder Alfonso Soriano.
Um. Yikes.
