Carlos Zambrano’s rehab start in high single A ball did not go flawlessly yesterday.
Zambrano tossed 3 2/3 innings for Class A Daytona against Dunedin in a rehab start, giving up 5 hits and 4 runs, walking three and striking out one. Zambrano threw 67 pitches, 42 for strikes. Daily Herald.
Zambrano walked the first two guys he faced, so it was ominous from the get-go. In truth, it’s highly unlikely that Zambrano was trying to be effective – he was just getting his work in and seeing how he felt.
It was Zambrano’s first game action since May 3, when he strained his left hamstring and had to go on the disabled list the next day. The plan is for him to rejoin the team Tuesday in St. Louis and pitch Friday’s series opener at San Diego.
He told the media in Florida he had no problems.
So it was a success. But hopefully he pitches a little better against Major League teams, because I think 4 runs in 3+ innings against high A ball players translates to approximately 4,037 runs in 1+ innings against the big boys.
