In spite of his proclamation that he was “back,” Milton Bradley has continued to struggle. And now, Chicago Cubs manager Lou Piniella is taking the task of fixing Bradley all on his back.
“We’re going to work on a couple things to get him into better position to swing the bat,” Piniella said. “I think it’ll help.”
Piniella wouldn’t get into specifics about his game plan, saying only that he wanted to “simplify” Bradley’s approach at the plate.
Hitting coach Von Joshua had been working with Bradley, who studied tapes of his hitting at Texas and compared them to his approach in Chicago. But Piniella thought Bradley needed a new voice. chicagotribune.com.
The effort is appreciated, but we’ve heard this before. First Lou had figured out the problem. Then Von Joshua was going to work with him and solve it. And now Lou will give it a go again.
It’s approaching the time that the Cubs either need to accept the fact that Bradley is not going to be a run-producer this year (but will put up a very nice OBP), or they need to start playing Jake Fox in his stead a good bit more.
