Aaron Miles came back to the Cubs today (one of the team’s best relievers, Jeff Stevens, was demoted to make room) and spelled Ryan Theriot at short. That part is understandable, given Theriot’s minor arm injury, and the fact that by rule, Miles’ rehab stint had to end.
What made NO SENSE AT ALL was the fact that Lou Piniella inserted Miles – he of the sub-.600 OPS at AAA – into the two-hole. What in the world was Lou thinking?
Predictably, Miles went hitless, and the Cubs failed to score.
