There is no good news to report on the Aramis Ramirez front. The Cubs are now officially kicking around the possibility of sending the third baseman – and the Cubs’ best hitter – back to the disabled list, after he already spent more than two months there.
Ramirez, who missed a second straight game Monday because of pain in the shoulder, didn’t sound optimistic he would be any closer to game shape for tonight’s series opener against Philadelphia.
”I thought I was going to be ready today,” he said. ”I took treatment the whole day [Sunday], but it’s not good enough to play. That’s why I’m going to talk to the doctors tomorrow.”
…”We’ve played short a lot this year,” manager Lou Piniella said. ”We’ve ridden out injuries trying to prevent people from being put on the disabled list. It makes it tougher. But there’s no sense making any hasty decisions here with Ramirez until he sees the doctor.” CHICAGO SUN-TIMES.
Jake Fox will continue to fill in for Ramirez in his absence, which costs the Cubs their best bench bat.
