We all know that the Chicago Cubs will try to deal disgruntled (and disgruntling) outfielder Milton Bradley this offseason. But we didn’t know how much the team expects that a trade will happen. Manager Lou Piniella may have let the cat out of the bag.
It’s early, but Colvin, the team’s No. 1 Draft pick in 2006, could be a starting outfielder in 2010.
“We know that Fukudome is a much better right fielder,” Piniella said. “That’s a really nice position for him. He’s done a very adequate job in center field. Depending on what happens coming out of Spring Training or this winter, we’ll see how we line up. When you look at a team’s defense, you look right up the middle, and the stronger you are up the middle, the better you’re going to be.” cubs.com.
Hmm. Well, if Piniella wants to see Kosuke Fukudome back in right field and a youngster in center field… gee. Where would that leave Milton Bradley?
And as we learned with Mark DeRosa, when Lou Piniella wants someone out the door – the guy is gone. Sorry. I know. Cheap shot.
