We somehow missed this quote last week regarding the Kansas City Royals’ interest in grousy Chicago Cubs outfielder Milton Bradley. And it ain’t good.
Royals officials dismiss — in strong terms — reports of possible interest in acquiring outfielder Milton Bradley from the Cubs. “Idiots” was one of the nicer comments directed at those offering such speculation.
The Cubs are looking to trade Bradley after a trouble-filled year in which he was sent home for the season. Bradley has $21 million left on a contract that runs through 2011.
The Royals are likely linked to Bradley because they nearly acquired him from Oakland in 2006 for reliever Leo Nuñez. The deal was voided at the last moment when Bradley suffered an injury. Kansas City Star.
“Idiots” seems harsh. Perennially on a budget, the Royals would be an ideal suitor for a guy who will likely produce big numbers for what will cost them little scratch. This is the team, after all, that signed troubled outfielder Jose Guillen when other teams were unwilling because they thought they could use his talent on a shorter, and (relative to the crazy market at the time) cheaper deal.
Incidentally, Guillen (who was a huge bust) leaves the Royals this year. And he was their right fielder.
I’m not saying. I’m just sayin’.
