OMG! Albert Pujols is Having Elbow Surgery

Chicago Cubs

For those of you Cubs’ fans who relish in opponent injuries, stop. Not only because it’s tacky, but also because this isn’t one of those times to relish. The surgery isn’t expected to be a huge deal, and Pujols is expected to be back in plenty of time for Spring Training.

St. Louis Cardinals first baseman Albert Pujols will undergo surgery on Wednesday to have five bone spurs removed from his right elbow, according to major-league sources.

The surgery will be performed by Cardinals team physician George Paletta and Dr. James Andrews in Birmingham, Ala. FOX Sports on MSN.

So this Dr. James Andrews guy has a pretty good thing going, no? Basically any athlete anywhere with any kind of injury goes to him. I don’t know a ton about medicine, but it seems to me that he can’t be a profoundly awesome surgeon in EVERY part of the body. I imagine he simply consults during most of the procedures, and collects a big sack of money for his time. He’s like the Scott Boras of surgeons – athletes go to him because, well, athletes go to him.
