Alfonso Soriano Will Finally Stop that Stupid Hop
In the annals of Chicago Cubs history, there are no fewer than two “hops.” One, affectionately known as “the hop,” is remembered fondly by Cubs fans as following an exceptionally strong Sammy Sosa swing.
The other, disparagingly known as “the stupid f*cking hop,” is remembered by Cubs fans as preceding an easy drop in the outfield by Alfonso Soriano.
And, thank the Lord, both hops are now exclusively a part of the history books.
Soriano vowed to make the change from his patented hop after committing his third error in 11 games on Saturday.
“I would advocate something like that. Yes,” Piniella said, laughing.
“We’ve talked about that in the past. All it can do is make your head bob and your eyes move and the ball flutter. It’s like catching a knuckleball. So if you can keep stable and catch it conventionally, I think it will help him, I really do.” Chicago Breaking Sports.
No word yet on whether Soriano plans to replace the hop with a skip, a jump, a backflip, or slipping on a banana peel and breaking his hip.
