You know, God has actually generally spared the Cubs His wrath this year. At least in the form of injuries.
Chicago Cubs starting shortstop second baseman Ryan Theriot took a pitch off his left elbow on Saturday, and he sat out yesterday’s game against the Pittsburgh Pirates. Although the injury doesn’t seem to be serious, it could cost Theriot another game or two.
Ryan Theriot received treatment for a sore left elbow Sunday but said he’s good to go when the Cubs host the Colorado Rockies tonight.
Theriot, who was hit by a pitch Saturday, was replaced in the lineup at second base by Mike Fontenot, who went 0-for-3 with a walk and a run.
”He’s lost some range of motion,” said Cubs manager Lou Piniella, who was unsure of Theriot’s status for tonight. ”We’ll see.” CHICAGO SUN-TIMES.
Former starting second basemen Mike Fontenot and Jeff Baker will fill in for Theriot for any other games he misses. Theriot’s been slumping a bit lately, and has probably lost his leadoff spot to Kosuke Fukudome against righties. The time off may help him anyway.
