The Chicago Cubs have signed five more of their 2010 draft picks, including third rounder Micah Gibbs, a catcher out of LSU.
The club has now agreed to terms with 20 of its 50 selections from the 2010 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft, including three of its first four, 11 of its first 16 and 13 of its first 20 picks.
In addition to Gibbs, the Cubs today announced the signings of infielders Pierre LePage (13th round) and Elliot Soto (15th round), right-handed pitcher Ryan Hartman (16th round) and catcher Chad Noble (37th round).
Gibbs batted a team-leading .388 (95-for-245) with 47 runs, 14 doubles, three triples, 10 home runs and a .458 on-base percentage in 62 games as LSU’s starting catcher. The 21-year-old Gibbs is five-foot-11, 215 pounds, bats switch-handed and throws right-handed. Daily Herald.
So far, the Cubs are doing a good job of getting their draftees signed. The team has until August 15 to sign the rest.
