Not the pumping-iron-with-angrily-tattooed-“love”-and-“hate”-knuckles type of working out, that is, just the throwing-the-baseball kind of working out. Though I could totally see him doing the former in an ill-lit apartment building basement.
Cubs manager Lou Piniella said before Monday’s game at Chase Field that he expects pitcher Carlos Zambrano to begin working out and throwing this week, but he’s not sure when the volatile right-hander will be reactivated.
Piniella also couldn’t say when and where Zambrano even will begin working out, only that the team would be putting together a program for him. cubs.com.
The plan remains that Zambrano won’t return before the All-Star break, and when he does return, he’ll head to the bullpen. There, the Cubs hope he can rehabilitate his value.
