So begins a stretch with just enough offense and just enough pitching for the Chicago Cubs to put together just enough wins to keep them from selling at the trade deadline, only to fall flat in early to mid-August (but then winning just enough in late August to let the waiver trade deadline also pass without selling), crushing our hearts and damaging future iterations of the team.
