God’s Wrath Watch: Tyler Colvin and Geovany Soto Updates

Chicago Cubs

Have you ever heard of a player getting impaled by a flying baseball bat? If that isn’t the clearest sign of God’s Wrath, I’m not sure what is.

The good news is that Tyler Colvin is doing well after his brush with Welington Castillo, Vampire Hunter (h/t to SOI for the tasteless joke). Tests showed that the puncture Colvin suffered yesterday did allow some air into his chest, but Colvin’s breathing was never affected. He’ll remain in the hospital for a little while, but at this point no one is expecting anything but a full recovery.

As for Geovany Soto, his shoulder surgery is scheduled for today. Soto has experienced shoulder pain since August, and while a cortisone injection provided limited relief, it wasn’t enough to stave off surgery, particularly given the Cubs’ situation. Having the surgery today will allow Soto to rehab with the Cubs’ staff, and should put him on schedule to resume full baseball activities in early January.
