Obsessive New Manager Watch: Ozzie Guillen on the List?

Chicago Cubs

Brace yourself: Ozzie Guillen says he’d be interested in the Chicago Cubs’ managerial job if he leaves the White Sox. Now unbrace yourself: he’s never been mentioned as even a remote possibility from the Cubs’ perspective, and he almost certainly isn’t. Still, it’s interesting.

Guillen said he might be interested if the rival Cubs approached him about their managerial vacancy.

“If Jerry doesn’t want me, yes,” Guillen told reporters. “My position was I would never sign with another place and leave the White Sox for the Cubs because of the respect for Jerry. But if Jerry is leaving me? I’m not leaving them; they are leaving me. Then, I have a choice to make.

“Everything is out there. As soon as you get divorced, you are free to do whatever you want. Yes, I will, not because I say I’m going there (Cubs), but because they (White Sox) don’t want me. Before I say it, I’m not going to leave this place just to punch you guys in the nose. But if you don’t want me and someone else wants me, I have to make the decision.” Daily Herald.

Guillen is an unlikely candidate for so many reasons they’re hard to list – whether it’s the fan base’s distaste for him or his repeated criticisms of Wrigley Field and its facilities.
