A small update to be interspersed with your Black Friday shopping and turkey sandwich eating: according to Buster Olney, the Washington Nationals are looking at Carlos Pena to replace departing first baseman Adam Dunn. The Chicago Cubs are heavily considering Pena, and if the price is right, he’s probably their favorite target this Winter (like it or lump it).
The scary thing? The Nationals are considering a three-year deal for Pena. Is anyone willing to see the Cubs commit three years to a guy who will turn 32 next year, and didn’t hit .200 last year? I don’t care how great his defense supposedly is (at first base, mind you), a three-year deal for Pena would be a mistake unless it’s at a very favorable price – like, $4 million per season favorable.
