With the Cubs remaining active in the pitching market (Matt Garza,
Brandon Webb), and with Kerry Wood now in the bullpen (making a
rotation move for Andrew Cashner possible), the theoretical glut of
starting pitching is going to have to sort itself out at some point.
To that end, the New York Mets are reportedly
interested in acquiring Tom Gorzelanny from the Cubs. You’ll recall
that the Cubs were thought to be “aggressively” shopping Gorzelanny at
the Winter Meetings, but never ultimately consummated a deal.
Gorzelanny is expected to make $2 to $3 million next year in his
second year of arbitration, so he should carry a good bit of trade
value. No names have yet been discussed.
