Just in case the Michael Young drama somehow ends up impacting the Chicago Cubs – they could use an upgrade at second base, after all – it’s worth passing along that Young has officially requested a trade from the Rangers. He’s owed $16 million per year over the next three, so it’s either going to be very expensive (in cash) to take him on, or very expensive (in prospects) to take him on without having to bleed payroll.
One potentially complicating factor: Young has a limited no-trade clause that allows him to veto deals to all but 8 teams (I don’t know who those 8 teams are). That means he can try his best to pick and choose his landing spot.
Feel free to continue the probably irrelevant, but highly interesting Michael Young discussion.
