Very little content to offer right now, but because he’s an important player – and the last remaining arbitration-eligible Cub – it’s still worth sharing: today, Carlos Marmol took his pre-extension physical in Mesa, according to Carrie Muskat. Recall, the Cubs are intent on signing Marmol, who’s eligible for arbitration for the second time (hearing is scheduled for the 15th), to a long-term deal. Most believe the deal will be for three years, but the details haven’t yet been announced. That’s expected some time next week. Presumably, Marmol passed the physical.
That also means, by the way, that Marmol has arrived in a camp a little early. In addition to those mentioned yesterday, John Grabow, Steve Clevenger, and – yes – Carlos Zambrano have already arrived.
