While you’re watching Casey Coleman fail to make it out of the third inning after trying (unsuccessfully) to nibble the Dodgers to death, perhaps you can take some solace in knowing that the guys whose absence made Coleman’s struggle possible had a good day of throwing.
Not much solace, I know. But some. Earlier today, Randy Wells and Andrew Cashner threw the ball around as they begin the process of returning to the mound (and saving the season, if you’re prone to exaggeration).
Neither threw off the mound in the light sessions and both reported no pain, Wells in his forearm and Cashner in his shoulder.
“It felt good,” Wells said. “It was just a light catch. We didn’t really want to push anything this early.”
“I was excited to come in today — I got to throw the ball and be a part of the team again,” Cashner said. “(The shoulder) feels real good, we just need some warm weather.” Chicago Breaking Sports.
Obviously the duo can’t return soon enough for reasons mostly unrelated to today’s Coleman implosion.
Though this is a good first step, it is only the first step – Wells likely won’t return for another two weeks, and Cashner for another month.
