Oh hellllll yes. I remain pessimistic about the Cubs’ chances of making a meaningful run this year, but that was a fun game to win.
Randy Wells was incredibly shaky early, and his velocity is clearly down. But he actually managed to cobble together a decent start, and suffered from a distinct lack of defense. Seemed like it wouldn’t much matter, though, what with Yovani Gallardo making the Cubs his collective bitch for seven innings.
But then, he left. A few batters later, Aramis Ramirez was homering to tie the game. A couple innings later, the Cubs were walking off courtesy of a Starlin Castro single. Just awesome.
Chris Carpenter was greeted rudely in his Major League debut – his first pitch resulted in an RBI double. Welcome, dude. Other than that pitch, though, he looked pretty good.
