Who’s ready to laugh?
Yes, another Cub is likely heading to the disabled list. This time, it’s second baseman Darwin Barney with a strained PCL in his left knee. Sadly, the strain occurred when he scored the winning run on Monday.
The strain is just a Grade 1, the mildest form. Barney would probably be good to go in a week, but the Cubs will once again play it safe, and give him the full two week DL stint to get better.
The corresponding move today will be intereting. Alfonso Soriano isn’t quite at 100%, but the Cubs might just active him anyway, and let him sit the bench a day or two. Blake DeWitt figures to share time at second base with Jeff Baker in Barney’s absence, which might not be the worst thing in the world for the Cubs. DJ LeMahieu, unfortunately, will remain with the big club, sitting on the bench.
(UPDATE: the predicted moves are now official. Barney to the DL, Soriano activated.)
