Just wonderful.
Carlos Zambrano lasted all of an inning today before exiting with what appeared to be a lower back issue. For now, the Cubs are calling it “lower back soreness,” but not offering any additional details. Descriptive injuries like that are never fun because they could be nothing, or they could be season-ending. Broken leg? The flu? I can wrap my head around those right away. “Soreness” is a tougher animal.
Back issues, though, can be a long-lasting problem, depending on the cause.
The bullpen will take over for the rest of the day. Yikes.
If the Cubs decide to put Zambrano on the disabled list, Kerry Wood is slated to return tomorrow from his turn on the DL.
