Matt Garza started off the second half with a phenomenal start. He wasn’t very economical with his pitches, but he had some good stuff, struck out plenty, and didn’t let anyone score. That’s plenty good for me.
Marlon Byrd went deep for the first time since he’s been back, and Geovany Soto had himself another good night, going 4-4. All was well heading into the 9th, with the Cubs blissfully up 2-0.
And then Carlos Marmol happened. He walked the bases loaded on just 13 pitches, and, with Mike Quade sitting on his hands, Carlos found the strike zone just long enough to give up a bases-clearing double. I would have been more upset of the Cubs weren’t simply following the script.
