As I said in the Series Preview, in the last 10 years, if you take a middling minor league starter – any middling minor league starter – and throw him out there against the Cubs, he’ll dominate.
So it was today, as the Cubs flailed away. I’m polishing Brian Burres’ Cy Young trophy as I type.
Ryan Dempster ended up with another bare-minimum quality start, which has become his speciality this year (though he did strike out a ton this year). Carlos Pena homered … there, you know the offensive story for the Cubs. (And, before people say it, the reason Quade pinch hit with DeWitt in the bottom of the 9th with two outs instead of Bryan LaHair is presumably because the Cubs needed two runs to tie. Not that I’m going out of my way to defend Quade….)
