Chicago Cubs’ top prospect Brett Jackson will not be headed to the prospect-heavy Arizona Fall League in October after all. According to Carrie Muskat, Jackson has “another commitment,” which will be explained soon.
How’s that for cryptic?
On Twitter, she says it’s not because he’s being called up to the Cubs, though. She says simply that it’s “all good,” and will be announced later. I’m scratching my head, trying to figure out what would be a conflict in October/November for Jackson. If I had to guess? He’s going to be on the USA Team for the Pan American Games (for which pros are eligible), which takes place in mid-October. Just a guess.
In his stead, the Cubs will send Josh Vitters (whose absence I actually questioned when the rosters were first announced). More interestingly, Muskat says Vitters is listed on the Solar Sox roster as an outfielder. Will this Fall be the beginning of a transition for Vitters? He has yet to play a game in the OF in his professional career.
