Another day, another chance to end a losing streak.
In the Series Preview, I noted that maybe this will be the start for Paul Maholm to break out, given that he might be able to neutralize the two top lefty bats in the Reds’ lineup, Joey Votto and Jay Bruce. I said that without know that Bruce is just 2 for 15 in his career against Maholm, and Votto just 3 for 20 (though Bruce’s two hits were both homers). So, maybe I’ll be right. That would be nice for at least two reasons.
And, hey, what do you know? It looks like Maholm has already neutralized Bruce – he’s not starting today. Also not starting today: Marlon Byrd, Geovany Soto, and Alfonso Soriano.
